The Double O is another new model for us. Like many of the things we make, this comes from an idea for something that…um…I wanted. In this case, what I wanted was a full 24 fret two octave fingerboard. This meant making the sound hole smaller and moving it back towards the bridge. So we cut some additional F holes into the upper bouts to let some more of the resonance get out and the next thing we knew we had a whole new sound on our hands.
Royal Hawaiian Double O features:
- Extra deep body and hollow neck for increased volume and resonance
- Double octave 24 fret rosewood fingerboard
- Vintage Martin style “snowflake” abalone fretboard inlays
- Oval sound hole with abalone binding
- Rope binding on the top, back and fingerboard
- Rosewood bridge with maple markings
- Gold and ebony sealed tuners
- Fishman Presys+ pickup system
The Double O uses our favorite Fishman Sonicore pickup with the Presys+ preamp system. This system features 4 bands of EQ, a notch filter for feedback busting and a phase switch, useful for adding extra fullness at low volumes, and of course, the built-in tuner.
We’ve just finished 12 of these instruments, and since everybody around here wants one, I guess we’ll have to get started on some more. The Double O comes standard with the Fishman Presys+ pickup system and our new extra deep hard shell case with center pocket and black poodle interior.
