Sorry, we’re out of Extra Deep Standards at the moment. Should have some more ready around the end of 2015. Get an Limited Edition or maybe a Classic-T instead. They’re so pretty and I’m quite proud of them.
The Extra Deep is our original model. It’s a Weissenborn style lap steel that we designed with an extra deep body and an extra deep hollow neck. Yep, it sounds BIG and resonant, just like we were hoping.
A typical Weissenborn is about 3 or 3 1/2″ deep inches deep tapering down to about 1 3/4″ at the nut. Ours is 5 inches deep tapering to 3 1/2″ at the nut. Does it make a difference? Oh, yes. It surely does. This instrument is too much fun.
It’s constructed of Sapele, an African mahogany known for it’s “ribbon” figure, with rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The top and back and neck are all bound with solid maple binding. The inlaid position markers are also maple. The nut and the saddle are buffalo bone. It has a 24 3/4″ scale like an early Rickenbacker or original Weissenborn.
